everything including law enforcement investigations are sifting through. it s sort of a paradox. your analysis is absolutely right. what i m struck by is we seem now to have every single election, every two years be an anti-incumbent through the anti-washington election. it used to be we went in waves. now it s a permanent anti-washington. that gets to your point. by the way, they voted for w. they voted for clinton. they have been voting the new person. vote out the out. with clinton and bush, you had sort of the last gasps of legacy brands. that s no different in what s happening in american culture. anybody surprised by the election haven t paid attention to sears and row buck lost out to amazon. every institution, every banking industry is leading us to vin mode and paypal. people are leaving institution and legacy brands every day. i think what is most problematic in our politics right now is no one is speaking in a positive way to the angst that a certain at least 46 have.
indiana, the four where the president won, what we see in every case is candidates running to the right when they re republicans so that will make it harder for them to come back to the middle to get the swing voters. and then the other factor that we see and this could be trouble for trump in the long-term, everybody is trying to be the most anti-washington, the most anti-establishment candidate. and trump going into 2020, now he s washington, now he s the establishment. we ll be having wall-to-wall coverage of the primaries today. how do you see today s primaries playing out? msnbc has been great on this one. everybody is talking about the west virginia race where don blankenship, the former coal executive, looks like he s been moving for republicans. president trump tweeted yesterday, said don t vote for this guy. said he can t win in the general elections and what axios is hearing from top republicans, is that don blankenship wins that
united states deeply harms american democracy. all right, guys, i want to look at politics in terms of the battle for congress with the midterms. you have four states holding the gop primaries this week. associated press is reporting that candidates are jockeying to be seen as the most conservative, the most anti-washington and the most loyal to this president with the effect of pulling the party to the right, leaving some leaders worried their candidates will be out of step with the broader electorate in november. is that a widely held concern? absolutely. there is two types of republicans out there now. trump republicans and party republicans. the trump republicans are much more motivated. and that s who these folks who are running like in west virginia are trying to get go as far right as they can to that trump base. the problem is in west virginia, we may have a co-owner who went to jail for the deaths of 29 people may be elected in the primary there, blankenship,

obamacare. the other stuff doesn t matter if you vote against it is not that it doesn t matter. the people of west virginia expect him to follow president trump s policies. s a. he s a democrat and they know that. we ll see if they want independence or they believe in the american dream that the president is pushing. they expect him to put west virginia first, not washington first. this is a classic washington slime ball maneuver, give a speech to the nation, i want to be bipartisan, then go and attack the least partisan guy in the senate, as you point out, guy votes for his judges, voted for the president s position on abortion, votes for many things, but couldn t be for the tax bill. the white house should have had joe and half the democrats at least on this tax bill easily, but why didn t they? they gave everything to ceos and corporations and nothing to middle class working people. this is a terribailor made issu joe manchin now. now joe can run anti-washington
