The anti-conversion laws are reconfiguring RSS cadres and Hindu right-wing organisations’ fight against conversions and interfaith relationships into spaces of legitimate action.
"If you believe that particular persons should be helped, help them but it can't be for conversion. Allurement is very dangerous," a bench of the top court said.
The government requested the top court to vacate a high court stay on the provision of a state law that mandates prior permission of the district magistrate if a person chooses to convert their religion before marriage.
The objective of the 2022 Bill is to make illegal religious conversion a cognizable and a non-bailable offence, punishable with a jail term ranging from 3-10 years.
