After a technical error that led a judge to dismiss a sweeping indictment in a Steuben County sex trafficking case, a new set of charges was announced Tuesday against four men, one of them a sitting county legislator.
The new indictment, which was handed up by a Steuben County grand jury, includes nearly two dozen more counts than the original 54 counts compared to the original 32 and includes felony counts of enterprise corruption, sex trafficking and promoting prostitution.
Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker said the following defendants are charged in the case:
Larry Comfort Sr., one of two brothers linked to the 1980 shooting death of a New York State Police investigator

After about two hours of deliberating over two days, a jury in Broome County Court found a Johnson City man guilty of manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend s 11-year-old son.
Larry Harris, 46, also faced a second-degree murder charge in the Feb. 2, 2019 death of Johnson City fifth-grader Jerome Smith. Of that charge, the jury determined Harris was not guilty.
Clarification of the murder charge definition was the only question raised by the jury during deliberations.
Harris faces up to 25 years in prison.
Jerome Smith died at the Burbank Avenue residence where he lived with his mother, sister and Harris. Johnson City police said at the time the death was being investigated as suspicious.

After a yearlong backlog of criminal cases in different counties, the court system in New York state is showing signs of picking up some lost momentum.
On Monday, the state s chief judge, Janet DiFiore, announced plans are being developed to increase in-person court operations where possible and to tentatively resume a limited number of jury trials statewide. In the state s judicial district that includes parts of the Southern Tier, some jury trials could be scheduled as soon as March 22.
