Three Notch'd Road: The Virginia Baroque Ensemble is a nonprofit based in Charlottesville that seeks to enrich the culture of Central Virginia through historically informed performances that reveal the beauty of early music. They are presenting the second program of our thirteenth season in Staunton, Crozet, and Charlottesville public concerts December 1st through 3rd. This program, entitled “Sacred Harp," will feature soprano Sheila Dietrich, with Anne Timberlake on recorders, and will interweave English and American folk and sacred music to celebrate the season, with an added Irish twist. How one musician found her way into the Church. As a violinist specializing in historical performance, I was increasingly surrounded by sacred music: hymns and Masses and cantatas and the great composers and priests who wrote them. This served to strengthen my faith in general and drew me steadily towards the Roman Catholic Church.
