Celebrating her 54th birthday and 20 years of painting, local artist Deidré Howarth is preparing to share a range of her work at the Ann Bryant Art Gallery later in January. From failing art in grade 9 and letting go of the dream for a number of years, Howarth is now excited to showcase 30 of her original pieces.
East London’s Ann Bryant Art Gallery has opened its doors for the annual art exhibition by Walter Sisulu University students. Twelve students doing an advanced diploma in fine art are displaying their work at the gallery in Belgravia until November 16.

Aged 89, East London ceramicist Bea Jaffray has no intention of taking a break from producing intricate, jewel-like tiled wall hangings that form part of art collections all over the world. Jaffray, who works from an enclosed balcony in Baysville, has participated in 110 exhibitions, most recently in France at a gallery called La Galerie Ecossaise in the village of Noyers-sur-Serein.
