only 83 out in oakland. now, we do have, for at least the next few hours in the city, that excessive heat warning. for the rest of us, west of the bay, most areas there under a that s the heat advisory. and on the eastern shore, an excessive heat watch for tonight. and again through tomorrow. into saturday as well. because these temperatures are not going to really cool down until the second half of the weekend. tim has a look at just how hot it s been recently. tim? well, we were just experiencing a nice little break with the sun going behind some clouds. but as soon as it came back out, started to feel the heat jump up again. temperatures have fluctuated in the upper 90s. we went up as high as 99 degrees today. we ve down to 97. so i mean, you know you can still feel that difference. it s still about 105 to 107 degrees will feels-like temperature on your skin, when the sun is out. and that s what we expect to see on friday into saturday. and just a little bit of a bre
lightning as well. anita mentioned the records. we crushed the records today. temperatures are still pretty toasty. 101 was the old record. now it s 104. 102 is the new record at dulles. we fell short up in baltimore. they topped out at 103. the record high was 105. temperatures are still in the upper 90s in triple digits across the metro area. the heat index is over 110. we are looking at 96 downtown officially. but look what it looks like. 107 downtown. so the heat is the excessive heat warning continues until 9:00. we have a severe thunderstorm watch until 1:00 a.m. iowa any tax we ll let you know if any relief is in sight. today s weather, not the most pleasant for spending an afternoon outside, but it didn t stop people from showing up at this year s festival on the national mall where the name of the game. i m surae chin on the national mall. despite the dangerous scorching heat, thousands have come out to the festival. nothing like a little shave ice. to
have those gessive heat excessive heat watches and warnings in effect. and throughout much of the weekend, we have these heat advisories in effect. basically, it s a way to advise you to take it easy this weekend, when the afternoon temperatures are in the upper 90s to low 100 100s. and it feels even hotter than that. tim has a look at the numbers. bob just talked about the heat index, right now at 111. and the 5:00 numbers have not come in yet. we are going to be watching that very closely, to see what that will be. we talked about 101 today so far. and we could still go up a degree or two. the average is 87. the record is 85. we won t quite get to 105. but definitely expect we ll be somewhere just below that. as for the next few days, we re looking at temperatures going up to around 98 tomorrow. and with the hot temperatures moving in from the southwest, the comfortable air is being held back, up around the north and the northeast. so we re not going to tap into too muc
