In order to overcome the severe shortage of medical oxygen and the problems in transporting it to hospitals amidst the COVID-19 crisis, the government on Sunday accorded an administrative sanction for about ₹310 crore for augmenting the required infrastructure.
According to G.O. Rt. No.214 issued by the Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Anil Kumar Singhal, the funds will be spent on procurement of 50 cryogenic oxygen tanker vehicles, setting up oxygen generation plants at 49 locations, laying 10,000 additional oxygen pipelines and on manpower and material required to undertake repairs to oxygen pipelines for six months.

Navy, VSP to augment oxygen supply in Andhra Pradesh
Disclosing this to mediapersons, AP Principal Secretary (Health) Anil Kumar Singhal said now with Navy chipping in, the oxygen supply chain to hospitals would be further strengthened.

VIJAYAWADA: The State government has roped in the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), to strengthen oxygen supply network.
As per the directive of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, AP Principal Secretary (Transport) MT Krishna Babu on Saturday held talks with the ENC and RINL to overcome the shortage of oxygen. The Indian Navy has agreed to transport 25 cryogenic tankers of liquid oxygen from Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia to AP.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to set up pressure swing absorption-based oxygen generation plants in 49 district/area hospitals at a cost of Rs 309 crore.
Principal Secretary (Health) Anil Kumar Singhal told media persons here on Friday that based on the number of beds available in each hospital, they would set up such plants and sounded confident that the plants would become operational within three months.

Nodal officer nominated for COVID relief material

The State government has nominated Principal Secretary (COVID-19 management, Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department) as nodal officer for the issue of authorisation certificates for free of cost import of COVID relief items from foreign countries, according to a G.O. issued on Wednesday.
Foreign aid The State so far did not receive any direct aid from foreign countries.
However, the Union Government has allocated some of the foreign aid it received to Andhra Pradesh, along with other States.
Remdesivir injections
Principal Secretary, Health, Medical and Family Welfare, Anil Kumar Singhal said that the Union government has allocated 4,879 vials of Remdesivir, 2,107 oxygen concentrators, 1.92 lakh rapid test kits among other material to the State.
