Fri Feb 19 2021 | Kenny DeJohn | College Jillian Wilson is one of many offensive weapons for No. 3 Loyola. (Photo by John Strohsacker) Welcome to the Gameday Guide. Every weekend during the college lacrosse season, US Lacrosse Magazine staff will riff here on the juiciest matchups, trendiest topics, biggest storylines and hottest takes. Opening weekend was fun, yes? Let’s do it all again. It was something of a soft opening, with only a handful of games kicking off our 2021 Division I women’s lacrosse season. At the time of this writing, there are 33 games scheduled not counting contests that have already been postponed for this upcoming Friday-Sunday.

Women's 2021 NCAA Preview Issue: 'Be the Change'

The games are here and they’re bigger than just games themselves.  When flipping through the pages of our 2021 Women s NCAA Preview issue and, honestly, even thinking about the prospect of a 2021 season as a whole I keep coming back to the word “perspective.” I feel like this word symbolizes a lot of my reflections on the year we’re just closing the book on.    It goes without saying, we haven’t covered college lacrosse live college lacrosse in a long, long time. As the Women’s Director at a lacrosse publication, that’s been strange; but it’s allowed us to really cover some pretty extraordinary, meaningful and, at times, overdue stories featuring different teams, athletes, coaches and people within our community making a change, taking a stand and being leaders.

The 2021 Division I Women's Lacrosse Season from A-to-Z

The 2021 Division I Women s Lacrosse Season from A-to-Z Mon Feb 8 2021 | Kenny DeJohn | College We are mere days away from the opening day of the 2021 Division I women’s lacrosse season and it feels good to be back. VCU and Old Dominion kick off the campaign on Friday at 1 p.m. Eastern. And while it’s thrilling to revel in the joys of a new beginning, we must remember (maybe more now than ever) that we shouldn’t project too far ahead. In a college sports landscape still dealing with COVID-19 to varying degrees, nothing is guaranteed. Let’s enjoy what’s in store this weekend and take the rest as it comes.

Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Friday, Dec. 11

Fri Dec 11 2020 | Brian Logue | Fuel Family is never far away from Syracuse senior attackman Stephen Reffuss. He put off law school for a year to play one more season with the Orange. Photo by Rich Barnes. Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world: 1. Over the last several weeks, many lacrosse coaches from outside of the Big Ten have been sharing off-the-record information that the Big Ten will only be playing conference games this spring for men’s and women’s lacrosse, potentially playing a home-and-home schedule. Inside Lacrosse wrote a story on Thursday sharing that sentiment based on feedback from women’s lacrosse coaches outside of the Big Ten that said they had been told by Big Ten coaches that they would not be able to schedule nonconference games in 2021. An unnamed men’s lacrosse coach told IL that no directive from the Big Ten Conference office to only play conference games had been shared with him.
