WATCH: Farmers Fight Through Adversity to Build Massive Cotton Gin in Tom Green County
MERETA, TX – It has been three years in the making and building and Friday a huge new cotton gin opened in eastern Tom Green County.
The Lone Star Farmers Cooperative Gin held a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday on Fourth Rd. near the intersection of FM-380 a few miles east of Veribest. The new gin is the result of a merger between Miles Coop Gin in Miles, TX and the Mereta Coop Gin in Mereta, TX.

WATCH: Honoring Gregorio Gutierrez and Conexion
SAN ANGELO, TX – A ceremony honoring the late Gregorio Gutierrez, owner and publisher of San Angelo s bilingual newspaper Conexion San Angelo, was held at the Railway Museum Saturday morning.
January 23, 2021 was Gregorio Gutierrez Day as proclaimed by the San Angelo City Council.
San Angelo Mayor Brenda Gunter honored Gutierrez with a proclamation on Tuesday along with the city council. City councilmen Harry Thomas and Lane Carter were present Saturday as was city manager Daniel Valenzuela. Thomas read the proclamation from the city.
State officials were also present to honor the newspaper man. Senator Charles Perry s office passed a proclamation in the Texas Senate honoring Gutierrez and San Angelo District Office Director Laura Lewis read the proclamation and presented a Texas flag that flew over the state Capitol to Gutierrez family.
Health Officials Confirm Covid Christmas Spike
SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo and Tom Green County officials Wednesday confirmed a spike in Covid-19 infections and hospitalizations following the Christmas holiday.
San Angelo Mayor Brenda Gunter and Tom Green County Judge Steve Floyd held a media conference Wednesday afternoon. Judge Floyd referred to the increase in the daily numbers over the last three days as a spike.
Mayor Gunter said San Angeloans did well over the Thanksgiving holiday and may have let their guard down over Christmas. The mayor asked citizens to reconsider New Year s Eve party plans and follow the CDC guidelines to avoid another spike.
