with us. welcome to news4 today. i m kimberly suiters. i m gill. it s surday, october 30, 2010. very busy morning in the news. people are waking up to temperatures in the 30s. chuck bell is here with our weather headlines. chilly start. good morning. what a nice crisp autumn feel outside this morning. if you re going to go outside and spend any quality time in the great outdoors it s a bundle up kind of morning. temperatures to get your weekend started under a beautifully clear sky overhead, a few fair weather clouds drifting on by. a lot of spots in the 30s. manassas 34. la plata, maryland 33 degrees. culpeper 34. downtown here in washington we re at 40 degrees with the near end suburbs dropped to the 30s with a most clear sky. there s a satellite review. bubble high pressure will provide us with plenty of sunshine for this afternoon. chilly to the cool side. noise south-southwesterly breeze. high up near 60 degrees. a little bit cooler than average for this time the y
the hospital, one with serious injuries. you see the video as firefighters carry one of the passengers away. stacey cohan is live at the scene at lay phone plaza. reporter: you can imagine what it was like following the rally. hundreds of thousands were in the city and everybody leaving at the same time. there was a crush of people. this escalator is one of those very steep escalators that descend into the underground station. take a look at the video, you can see the people being transported. we are hearing at some point the escalator began to jerk. they don t know what caused that. there are a variety of reasons including safety sensors that actually exist near the floorboards of the escalators that are designed to trigger if there is too much pressure applied. so, was it a safety censor, malfunction? we don t know exactly what went wrong. at the entrance it s steep and long. i m not sure if it was a malfunction or surge of the crowd or what that circumstance that lead
