40-year-old Ray E. Tate is scheduled to appear in Wayne County Circuit Court this morning for a sentencing hearing. He pleaded not guilty in February to 38 counts related to the death of Wayne County Deputy Sean Riley. Last month, he pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder, and the remaining counts were dismissed. The maximum sentence for the offense is mandatory natural life in prison without parole. The Edwards County Board of Education met last night. It heard Baccalaureate will take place May 20th at 7 at ECHS, and graduations will take place May 21st. West Salem's will begin at 10 a.m., Albion's at 1 p.m., and the high school's at 4 p.m. In other action, the board approved a bid for concrete work at the West Salem Grade School parking lot at a cost of $245,320. Board members Jo Rector, Brian Mewes, and Andrew Spray voted no. The board also received a bid for asphalt for the parking lot at a cost of $243,930 but ultimately went with the bid for concrete. T
