greta, will take some time to come to fruition. greta? jonathan thank you. as jonathan says in phoenix, new information coming in about the two terrorist gunmen and how they lived there. tonight the fbi continues to sift through the new evidence from that apartment. andrew hasben is at the apartment where the terrorist begun men lived. andrew, what s the latest there? reporter: by all accounts they lived very unassuming lives. one graduated in 2002 and went on to play basketball at a community college in prescott arizona. we spoke to a former teammate of his. the elton simpson that he knew would not harm a fly. he like many people are in a state of shock. the fbi had been watching simpson. he was involved in a terror investigation back in 2006 and an informant recorded hundreds of hours of conversations where simpson talked about going to somalia and joining with terrorist groups there.
elton simpson now is so shocked that he was doing this did they not know about the 2011 conviction? were they unaware of what was going on? were they unaware that he was tapped by the feds? that came out in the court that the fbi has been tapping him for four years. suddenly they re just surprised today? reporter: well it seems talking to his former attorney who represented him in that case she claims that the charges were really trumped up and they didn t have that much against him, hence, the reason why he was convicted of a much lesser crime of just lying to federal authorities. so the people who were involved in that situation obviously felt like it wasn t something very serious that happened back then. all right. well i guess maybe it s just me but if i had a friend that was being wire tapped for four years, i would be a little suspicious even if it turned out not to be a whole lot. andrew thank you. new information on these two terrorists and their ties to terrorism. kathry
