Stewart A convicted felon is facing firearms-related charges after allegedly lying to Freedom Township police Thursday about owning a handgun found in his car, court documents stated. Martinsburg resident George Stewart, 70, was arraigned Thursday by Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller on charges of possession of a firearm while prohibited and carrying a firearm without a license, according to court documents. Just after midnight Thursday, Freedom Township police received a call about an inebriated man, allegedly Stewart, trying to purchase alcohol at a Sheetz store, police reported. When the responding officer arrived at the location, a person informed him a man later identified as Stewart drove away headed toward Roaring Spring, a criminal complaint stated.

ifredregill@altoonamirror.com An Altoona couple were charged with child endangerment and drug-related charges Saturday after police discovered the family was living in “deplorable conditions,” court documents stated. Altoona residents Kenneth and Sherry Meek were arraigned Saturday by Magisterial District Judge Andrew Blattenberger, and both were released on unsecured bails of $50,000 each, according to court documents. About 1:30 a.m. Saturday, police accompanied AMED in responding to a medical call involving a 6-year-old, who was shocked by an electrical outlet, police reported. While Sherry Meek was initially hesitant about letting first responders into her home near the 500 block of Fourth Avenue, police were eventually granted access, a criminal complaint stated.
