Indian state to build 3,000 temples to 'protect and propagate Hindu faith'

The state government of Andhra Pradesh in South India has sought to ensure that all 26 districts of the state house at least one major shrine of Hindu faith. The government said that the construction of shrines has been taken up in a big way in the state. Under directions from Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the initiative aiming to "protect and propagate the Hindu faith" has been rolled out in the state, Deputy Chief Minister Kottu Satyanarayana said.

Photo: Twitter/appolice100 Politics16/Jan/2021 New Delhi: In a significant development in Andhra Pradesh political circles, state director general of police (DGP) Gautam Sawang accused cadres of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being behind the spate of attacks on temples and spreading false news to create enmity between religious groups. Speaking to the media in Amaravati on Friday, he said the role of TDP and BJP workers has been clearly established in nine cases, involving 15 TDP members and four from the BJP. Thirteen TDP activists, two BJP workers are already arrested, while others are on the run, the DGP said.
