Maize Farmers Want Buhari to Sustain Ban on Importation as Pyramids Emerge in Nigeria
Maize Association of Nigeria (MAAN) is urging the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to sustain the ban placed on the importation of some commodities in the country.
The trade bloc says the continuation of the policy will further enhance local capacity.
This is coming as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) via the MAAN-CBN Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP) unveiled the first maize pyramids in Katsina State.
On the occasion, CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, also flagged off the 2021 Maize Wet Season Farming to target 500,000 hectares of maize in 2021.
The reality of venturing into agriculture as an alternative avenue to drive any economy and reduce poverty, in relation to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by any administration cannot be over-emphasised, given its significant contribution to food security, job creation, and to a large extent, in generating revenue into the coffers of the government.
This was the maiden approach the current administration in Ogun State adopted at inception. Vision drives mission. There is no gain saying the fact that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration has demonstrated its commitment and resolve towards resuscitating the once-upon-a-time mainstay economic prosperity (agriculture) of the defunct old Western Region for survival, growth and development of the state.

In 2020, Livestock Feeds Plc. âpioneer manufacturer of animal feeds in Nigeriaâ recorded its highest revenue on records since the financial year 2014, analysts at Meristem Securities said in a report.
However, the companyâs earnings quality drop following a strong increase in inventories and receivables at the time when the company reported raised animals feeds prices amidst jumping headline inflation rate.
For 19 consecutive months, the average increase in the general price level has maintained an uptrend before it settled at 18.17% in March, however, projected to rise further.
Meristem Securities analysts hinted about the deterioration in earnings quality, thus advised investors to dump the stock over lack of upside advantage.
