ELLSWORTH In a budget presentation before the City Council on Monday, the Ellsworth Public Library proposed a surprising cut to its operating expenses:
The board has chosen Amy Wisehart, director of the Ellsworth Public Library since 2016, to succeed Elly Andrews as director of the Northeast Harbor Library.
With over half of active cardholders from nearby towns, the City Council had asked Wisehart and library trustees more than two years ago to secure additional revenue sources.
Not all library services require a card, including Wi-Fi, resume help and library events, and Wisehart said informal surveys show that 70 percent of out-of-towners shopped in Ellsworth before or after visiting the library. “We’re structured as a county library but funded as a city library,” she noted.
