Leah and Mark Mirra relocated from Albany, New York, to the Lake Travis region three years ago and immediately loved the area. Still, the Mirras said they could not help but miss one thing about home New York-style pizza.
When Gatti’s Pizza closed its location in the Four Points area, the husband and wife team decided to make the career shift from property management professionals to pizzeria owners. They signed a lease in February for their new business, Lake Travis Pizza. “This is different for us, but we really have a lot of passion for pizza,” Leah said. “It’s exciting to make people happy, and food feeds the soul.”

Since March, the coronavirus public health crisis has had an unprecedented impact on child care, education and the lives of working parents. Amid the ongoing disruption, Christy Black, owner of Primrose Schools of Bee Cave, Lakeway, Mueller and West Lake Hills, is working to remain a vital resource in the Greater Austin area.
Primrose is a year-round early education and child care provider that serves children 6 months through 12 years old. When the pandemic arrived locally, Black, a mom of four, knew that after 13 years with the company, Primrose would be needed more than ever.
Despite the additional officers, the PD would not impose a large budgetary impact, Norton said, adding that LTISD currently budgets over $600,000 for its contract with Travis County.
The initial one-time cost of developing the department is projected under $400,000 with a yearly price tag estimated at a little over half a million dollars, according to Norton. The majority of the development funding would include the cost of vehicles, guns, ammunition and badges, Norton said.
Bearing in mind the proposed increase in campus police presence, trustee Lauren White brought attention to nationwide disparities in disciplinary action.
“We’ve seen historically across the country and in Texas that more officers across the school sometimes means more students are referred to the criminal justice system, and there’s usually disparities in who that is,” White said. “How do we ensure that as the police force grows . that we’re able to make sure that doesn’t happen to our students?�
