Pritzker and Democratic leaders to eliminate tax increases from consideration for the 2022 budget.  Pritzker’s administration said yesterday it is hoping to save nearly a billion dollars by getting rid of or altering nine tax incentives.  Pritzker calls the incentives loopholes and thinks they need to be addressed to balance the budget.  Republicans say Illinois has generated 16-billion in unexpected revenue, so there is no need to eliminate incentives. ###

Mattoon, IL, USA / MyRadioLink.com Illinois Democrats Advocating For Gun Reform As Session Winds Down (Springfield, IL)    Illinois Democrats are advocating for gun reform as the legislative session begins to wind down.  The Gun Violence Prevention PAC is urging the passage of a Senate bill that would require background checks for all gun sales, collect fingerprints from FOID card applicants, and dedicate mental health funding for communities most impacted by gun violence.  It is being attached to the Fix the FOID proposal as a comprehensive gun control bill. ###

Mattoon, IL, USA / MyRadioLink.com Illinois Receiving Over 100-Million In Mental Health, Addiction Treatment Funding (Washington, DC)    Illinois is set to receive over 100-million dollars in federal funding to help communities struggling with mental health and addiction challenges.  U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth announced the funding yesterday that will come from the American Rescue Plan.  The Illinois Democrats say the state Department of Human Services will receive over 54-million in Substance Abuse and Prevention Treatment Block Grant Funding and just over 50-million in Community Mental Services Block Grant funding.  Duckworth says she and Durbin will work together to ensure that treatment programs continue to get needed funding.

Mattoon, IL, USA / MyRadioLink.com Illinois Lawmakers Hoping To Add Penalties For Scott’s Law Violation (Springfield, IL)    Illinois House lawmakers are hoping to add penalties for Scott’s Law violations.  The law requires drivers to move away from the side of a road where emergency crews are helping someone.  There is currently a 250-dollar fine for violations of the law.  A proposed amendment would add community service as a punishment for breaking the law.  The amendment would also add language emphasizing the need for drivers to slow down and pay attention to emergency vehicles. The proposal moved out of the Transportation Committee unanimously yesterday and is headed to the floor for discussion.
