Most of the missing persons are reportedly workers of two NTPC power project Tapovan-Vishnugad hydel project and the Rishi Ganga Hydel Project which faced the flood fury and were swept away in the gushing waters.

New Delhi [India], February 7 (ANI): Amid the concerns over the avalanche triggered after a glacial burst in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Sunday, the Central Water Commission (CWC) informed that River Alaknanda at Srinagar in Pauri Garhwal is flowing much below the warning level. River Alaknanda at Srinagar in Pauri Garhwal, Uttrakhand is flowing much below the warning level as the impact of Glacial Lake burst is felt only up to Joshimath, tweeted the CWC.
Amrendra Kumar Sengar, IG National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said: Since the flow of water was very fast initially, bodies are being recovered far away from the incident site. Some are trapped in deep areas and others in tunnels, so there is issue of access.

A massive rescue operation is underway after a chunk of the
Nanda Devi glacier on Sunday broke off at Joshimath in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, trapping several people who were reportedly working at a power plant which was swept away as waters rushed down the mountainsides in a raging torrent.
As many as 16 people who were trapped in a tunnel were earlier rescued by ITBP personnel. The rescuers had then started focussing on a second tunnel, where around 30 people were trapped
