Representative image DEHRADUN/NAINITAL: The number of Covid-19 cases in the nine hill districts of Uttarakhand has spiralled, almost doubling in the past 40 days. Equally worrying is that deaths have also shot up it is three times the figure compared to last year. Pauri, the worst-affected hill district, recorded 5,215 cases between March 2020 and March 2021. In the period between April 1 and May 13, though, the district’s tally shot up to 12,970. Till March 31 this year, Pauri had 60 Covid-19 deaths. The number went up to 200 in the period between April 1 and May 13. Another significant spike has been in Almora where cases went up from 56 between March 2020 and March 2021. It was 1,318 between April 1 and May 13 this year. The number of deaths went up from 26 to 89 in the corresponding period.

Dehradun: Chief secretary Om Prakash on Monday said that the state needs one lakh Covid-19 vaccines per day to carry out the vaccination drive smoothly. He added that the state government has requested the central government to allow the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines from abroad. “We need 1 lakh vaccinations per day. We have written to the Government of India to ask if the state government can import the vaccine directly from foreign nations. Meanwhile, we have decided to start a mobile testing van very soon. The vehicle will go to remote rural areas to identify the patients and check them for Covid-19 there itself. This will save them the hassle of going to the city for Covid-19 testing,” he added. Uttarakhand govt directs hospitals to give treatment to people showing COVID-19 symptoms ANI | Updated: May 04, 2021 02:17 IST Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], May 4 (ANI): The Uttarakhand health department on Monday gave strict instructions to hospitals in the state to give treatment to patients showing symptoms of COVID-19, even if they test negative. Amid a worsening pandemic situation, the state has significantly increased the capacity of ICU beds, ventilators and oxygen beds, said Amit Negi, the state health secretary on Sunday. As of April 1, 2020, we had 216 ICU beds. On April 1, 2021, the figure rose to 836 and today this figure is at 1336, in just one month, Negi told reporters here.
