The Gujarat High Court on Friday dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s plea for a stay on his conviction in a criminal defamation case related to his “Modi surname” remark. Justice Hemant Prachchhak, while dismissing the plea, said Rahul faces 10 criminal cases in various parts of India.
The Gujarat Court gave some sharp remarks while rejecting Gandhi's plea today. This verdict means that Gandhi will remain disqualified as the MP for Lok Sabha and will not be able to contest elections.
"We have noted the verdict of the single-judge bench of the Gujarat High Court on the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi. The reasoning of the Hon ble judge is being studied, as it should be, and Dr. Abhishek Singhvi will be briefing the media in detail at 3 pm. The judgement only redoubles our resolve to pursue the matter further," Jairam Ramesh said on Twitter.
