This is also the area where later this morning members of Oakland City Council and Community Leaders will gather and demand increased public safety. It was two days ago she was driving in the neighborhood when she was shot and killed two blocks from her home. She was picking up animals in the area for a pet sitting business. They came together to show their support and honor judy solomon. Im devastated. She was my only sister and her mother, our mother died when judy was 17. And it has been a tough life for her. New this Morning Police are investigating the stabbing death of a woman in south san jose. Police were called to dakota drive off the express way. A woman died at the scene. Investigators dont know why she was stabbed but police say she apparently new her attacker. They have not made any arrests or made a any arrests. Its the 36th homicide of the year for san jose. Fire last night on orange street lane in a home. While firefighters tried to put it out, flames jumped to a neighboring house. Nobody was hurt. Other homes in the neighborhood were evacuated. Theres a chance after gas line thats running to the home that may be involved as part of the fire. So because of that, we are keeping people at a safe distance. On tuesday, two Santa Cruz Police officers were shot by a suspect before they even had time to react, and now there is a growing memorial in santa cruz honoring Sergeant Butch baker and detective elizabeth butler. But one item in particular left behind by a mourner has really caught the departments attention. Mixed in with the flowers, candles, and pick checks, someone pinned a purple heart medal to a teddy bear. Police received an anonymous note explaining, quote, the purple heart is for the sacrifice above and beyond the call of duty. When one loses their life for the protection of others and the greater good. I know you will understand.
