demonstrators get ready to protest in oakland right now. the news at 5:00 starts right now. thanks for joining us. tonight protests and marches continue across the nation in the aftermath of the brutal police beating and death of tyre nichols. right now there is a protest about to get under way in oakland. people are gathering in oscar grant plaza marching in solidarity with those in tennessee, put on by the anti-police terror organization. they are calling on those to come out in support of tyre s family. the demonstrations so far have been overwhelmingly peaceful. an arraignment date for the five former memphis police officers charged with the beating death of tyre nichols happens on february 17th. among their charges, second-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault. the ex-officers have been released from jail on bond. nichols family praised the city for swift actions. president biden is expected to give a state of the union next week. rain came
