Were going to the project and talk a little about it. Fine, i will get started. Thank you everyone for being here today. I am excited about this project. This is the city and county of San Francisco working hard to fulfill a promise. A promise to so many people who live throughout San Francisco in Public Housing, in conditions that no one should have to live in. A few years back when i first started as a member of the board of supervisors, i met with mayor ed lee to talk about priorities. My number one, two, three priority as supervisor was Public Housing in San Francisco as a whole, not just my district. Mayor lee supported the fact that we needed to do Something Different because the kinds of conditions that existed for so many years and the amount of money that we received, there was no way to get to a better place. Over 20 years of my life in plaza east, i live in those conditions. The neglect, the bathrooms that didnt work, the mold, the conditions that you live in when you have h
Growing up in San Francisco has been way safer than growing up other places we we have that bubble, and its still that bubble that its okay to be whatever you want to. You can let your free flag fry he fly here. As an adult with autism, im here to challenge peoples idea of what autism is. My journey is not everyones journey because every autistic child is different, but theres hope. My background has heavy roots in the bay area. I was born in san diego and adopted out to San Francisco when i was about 17 years old. I bounced around a little bit here in high school, but ive always been here in the bay. We are an inclusive preschool, which means that we cater to emp. We dont turn anyone away. We take every child regardless of race, creed, religious or ability. The most common thing i hear in my adult life is oh, you dont seem like you have autism. You seem so normal. Yeah. Thats 26 years of really, really, really hard work and i think thises that i still do. I was one of the first open a

All my issues have a lot of issues that go down to my basic needs being met. And so, im someone who needs Wraparound Services in my life. Im at the mercy of the handout to survive and its still not enough. We have a crisis in my city. This is my city and my home. What i see daily disturbed my heart and what i go through disturbs my mind. Its a challenge to stay focused and not give up because i live a hard life. Mental health sf offers Wraparound Services. And that is something that we need. We need wrap around services because the issues in our life are intersected with the needs that we need to be met. Instead of that in place, what we have right now is incarcerating, criminalizing and killing us. My friend was killed by San Francisco police at th

Its an epistolary work. Its a letter, a series of letters to my sons of course its also a letter to the larger world. Both about the reality of the terror and anxiety and worry that comes along with being a parent of black children and particularly black boys in the United States at this moment but its also filled with my desire for them to lead a life of beauty and joy. And excellence and self regard. Much of which i think one defined the lessons for an extraordinary definition we have to draw from. Where did you come up with the idea to write your sons a letter . Actually have written them letters privately for years. But my editor gayatri at beacon press said is this something youd be interested in doing i think a large part because i talk about my children all the time direct post about them in social media. Initially what we both had in mind was something that was probably a bit more lighthearted. When i started to reflect on what it would mean to try to tell a story about both my
