By STEVE BEYNON | STARS AND STRIPES Published: October 15, 2020 WASHINGTON Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., warned Thursday that if President Donald Trump continues with his plan to withdraw troops and their families from Germany, it could open the door for Russian aggression in Europe. “Russia only operates on the idea of the threat of power,” Gallego, a Marine Corps veteran and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, said during a news conference. “Every time we’ve given them an inch, they have taken it and any type of reduction of forces in Europe will only encourage them more.” Some lawmakers have challenged the plan announced by the White House in early June to pull some 9,500 troops out of Germany, which would reduce the American military force on the continent by about one-third. The 34,000 U.S. troops in Germany play a key role in reinforcing NATO’s eastern flank and supporting operations in Africa and the Middle East, advocates who oppose the move hav

The TPP was the centrepiece of President Barack Obama’s strategic pivot to Asia. Before President Donald Trump withdrew the United States in 2017, on his third day in office, the TPP was set to become the world’s largest free trade deal, covering 40 percent of the global economy. For its supporters, such a deal would have expanded US trade and investment abroad, spurred economic growth, lowered consumer prices, and created new jobs, while also advancing US strategic intere
In his bid for the US presidency in 2020, President Joe Biden campaigned on a restorationist agenda towards “rescuing US foreign policy” from his predecessor Donald Trump’s ‘America First’ approach. Under the Trump presidency, that approach had devolved into ‘America Alone’ on the back of the open derision of Washington underwriting the security of its allies. In Asia, however, Trump’s ‘America First’ impulses stood tempered in view of his administration’s sustained confrontational posture against China and an emergent US bipartisan consensus on addressing the strategic threat posed by Beijing’s rising influence in the region. With decades of political experience under his belt, Joe Biden, who took oath on Wednesday as the 46th president of the United States, has made it to the top American political office in his third attempt.
Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania state, the 77-year-old began his political career in 1972, when he was first elected to the US Senate from Delaware state. The new president has considerable experience in foreign policy and was the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee twice in his career. He has also served as the chairperson of the Committee on Judiciary.
Though long and distinguished, Biden s career is certainly not stain-free. He has faced criticism for sponsoring the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, which critics say led to the mass incarceration of African Americans.

The behavior and rhetoric of Donald Trump and his most ardent partisans since he was defeated for re-election have brought into sharp focus a fact that has lurked in the background since the day he became a candidate in the 2016 presidential election: Trumpism is a specifically American iteration of generic fascism.
