One of the most challenging aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic is the stubborn persistence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It may feel as though the situation is improving at times, but when events force governments to enact new lockdowns, the effect can be disheartening.

Nostalgia isn t actually helping us feel better during the pandemic, say UK-based researchers Jane Ogden and Amelia Dennis.
They found that thinking about nostalgic memories stirs up feelings of loss, while those who contemplate the present and future are more socially connected and feel gracious and optimistic.
Since isolation and lockdowns are likely to take a toll on mental health, Ogden and Dennis recommend continuously looking to the future and being grateful about the present.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a tough year for people across the globe, with billions facing at least one lockdown. And it s not over there may be further lockdowns needed in the new year. Luckily, researchers have been busy studying what effect they have and how best to cope.
