MPA kicks off parliamentary career by reciting Naat in House

Syed Ameer Ali Shah, the newly elected legislator of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), took the oath of office as a member of the provincial assembly (MPA) on Monday and formally started his parliamentary career by reciting Naat in the House.
Shah had won the by-election for Umerkot’s PS-52 constituency on January 18, defeating former Sindh chief minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim, who had contested on the ticket of the opposition Grand Democratic Alliance.
It was the first by-election in Pakistan since the start of the Covid-19 health emergency in the country. The seat had fallen vacant the previous year after the death of the PPP’s lawmaker and former provincial minister Ali Mardan Shah. Ameer Ali Shah is his son.

UMERKOT: Former chief minister Sindh Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Friday alleged Prime Minister Imran Khan for the defeat in PS-52 Umerkot by-elections.
The by-poll on the PS-52 seat, which fell vacant after the demise of PPP MPA Syed Ali Mardan Shah, was held on January 18 which the PPP candidate Ameer Ali Shah won. Former chief minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim alleged on Wednesday that the Umerkot by-polls were rigged and people were bribed on the election night.
Addressing a press conference at Malkani House in Umerkot, Rahim lamented that his party holds no hope from the appeal in the election tribunal. People are disappointed with the election process, he added.

SUKKUR: PPP candidate Ameer Ali Shah won by-polls in PS-52 (Umarkot-II). Unofficial results of 128 polling stations showed that Shah secured over 58,968 votes against GDA s Arbab Ghulam Rahim, who bagged nearly 30,832 votes. The polling process started under the supervision of the police and Rangers, however, some incidents of minor clashes were reported and polling suspended for some time, but again restored. Both candidates and their chief polling agents had visited different pollingstations and accused each other of rigging in polling. Over 50 polling stations were among the most sensitive which were monitored by Rangers.
In general election 2018 PPP candidate late Syed Ali Mardan Shah secured 52,139 votes, while GDA candidate Arbab Ghulam Rahim secured 31,979 votes. The provincial assembly seat fell vacant after Syed Ali Mardan Shah died of a cardiac arrest on January 19, 2019.
