KARACHI:
Unconditional love and uncompromised respect for the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is the most defining element of the Muslim psyche. That sense of attachment and reverence is so deep and powerful that it emotionally defines the Muslim identity and provides the building blocks for Islamic ideology. It is this underpinning theory that makes Iqbal end his marvellous poem Jawab-e-Shikwah with this couplet where God tells the people that “Ki Muhammad Se Wafa Toone To Hum Tere Hain”. Roughly translating to: If you show faithfulness toward Muhammad, then We are yours.

KARACHI:
Setting aside the agenda, the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party lawmakers discussed the Umerkot by-election during the Sindh Assembly session on Monday.
The Umerkot elections, which PPP candidate Syed Ameer Ali Shah won by defeating former Sindh chief minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim, who was contesting on Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) ticket, dominated the proceedings. The seat fell vacant after the death of Ali Mardan Shah.
The session started with Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani presiding. The newly-elected MPA took oath amid Jeay Bhutto slogans. He applauded the party leadership for nominating him to contest the by-polls from PS 52 Umerkot from where his father Ali Mardan Shah has been winning candidate for last three decades.

Syed Ameer Ali Shah, the newly elected legislator of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), took the oath of office as a member of the provincial assembly (MPA) on Monday and formally started his parliamentary career by reciting Naat in the House.
Shah had won the by-election for Umerkot’s PS-52 constituency on January 18, defeating former Sindh chief minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim, who had contested on the ticket of the opposition Grand Democratic Alliance.
It was the first by-election in Pakistan since the start of the Covid-19 health emergency in the country. The seat had fallen vacant the previous year after the death of the PPP’s lawmaker and former provincial minister Ali Mardan Shah. Ameer Ali Shah is his son.
