Celebration of life to be held for jockey Lorna Brooke

FAMILY, friends and colleagues will gather to celebrate the life of jockey Lorna Brooke later this month. A celebration of Lorna’s life will be held at Ludlow Racecourse during and immediately after racing on Monday, May 24. Amateur jockey Lorna, 37, was riding Orchestrated for her mother, Lady Susan Brooke, who is based in Dolau, near Llandrindod Wells, when she fell at the third fence in the Pontispool Equine Sports Centre Handicap Chase in Taunton on April 8. Racing was delayed by more than hour as she was treated on track, before being transferred into an air ambulance. Lorna was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for observation and tests on a suspected spinal injury. After complications she was placed in an induced coma the following day. She died 10 days later on April 19.

Brooke also rode 40 point-to-point winners, often when carrying her mother s orange and brown colours, and travelled far and wide to pursue her passion from her base in the Welsh borders. She made her debut under rules on Hag s Way as a teenager in February 2002 for her mother Lady Susan Brooke and celebrated her first winner aboard Super Nomad in the Ludlow Gold Cup Hunters Chase in April 2007 before the pair followed up at the track in March 2008.

Link to Share Tributes have been paid to amateur jockey Lorna Brooke who died on Sunday aged 37 following a heavy fall at Taunton earlier this month. Brooke was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol on April 8 after falling from Orchestrated, trained by her mother Lady Susan Brooke, and was taken into intensive care with a suspected spinal injury, but due to complications she was placed in an induced coma on Friday. News of her death was announced in a statement by the Injured Jockeys Fund (IJF) on Monday morning, which read: It is with deep sadness that we have to share the tragic news that Lorna Brooke passed away yesterday.
