UPDATED 12:56PM, APR 19 2021 Lorna Brooke has died following a heavy fall at Taunton this month, the Injured Jockeys Fund (IJF) has announced in a statement. The amateur jockey was treated on track and airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol on April 8 after falling from Orchestrated, trained by her mother Lady Susan Brooke, in the 2m7f handicap chase. The 37-year-old was taken into intensive care where she underwent observations and tests for a suspected spinal injury, but due to complications she was placed in an induced coma on Friday.  A statement from the IJF was released on Monday morning, which read: It is with deep sadness that we have to share the tragic news that Lorna Brooke passed away yesterday.

Amateur jockey Lorna Brooke has died in hospital after a racing fall. Lorna, 37, was airlifted to Bristol Southmead Hospital on 8 April when the horse she was riding, Orchestrated, fell at the third fence in a handicap chase at Taunton. The horse, trained by her mother Lady Susan Brooke, was believed to be uninjured. The following day, Lorna was reported to be in intensive care where she was undergoing tests for a suspected spinal injury and was in a serious, but stable condition, and was conscious. She was placed into an induced coma on Friday (16 April) owing to complications and was said to be “critical, but stable”.

Hereford Racecourse pays tribute to Lorna Brooke

Hereford Racecourse paid tribute to Brooke in a statement which said: Thoughts, prayers and condolences with the family and friends of Lorna Brooke, who has so tragically died following a fall earlier this month. We will miss her riding at Hereford and know that racing s family will be so shocked and saddened by this very sad news. The Racecourse Association said in a statement: The Racecourse Association is deeply saddened by the tragic news of Lorna Brooke s death as a result of injuries sustained following a fall whilst race-riding at Taunton Racecourse on Thursday, April 8. Our thoughts and condolences are with Lorna s family and friends during this time.
