NEW DELHI: Bangladesh Supreme Court on Thursday inaugurated an Amar Vasha software to translate court orders and judgments from English into Bangla. The software, developed by Ek Step Foundation of India, is being used by India’s Supreme Court and 18 high courts, to translate judgments into Indic languages.
Speaking to TOI, Vikram Doraiswami, Indian high commissioner to Dhaka said, “The development of this specially-customised translation software is a recognition of the unique strengths of our partnership: only India and Bangladesh could have worked together on such a Bangla translation software, since Bangla is equally our shared heritage.” Ekushey this year has been special for Bangladesh and India. ‘Ekushey’ is celebrated on February 21 as international mother language day, commemorates the day in 1952 when students of Dhaka University started a nationwide protest against the imposition of Urdu on the then East Pakistan. Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain said on Sunday that all orders and verdicts by the Supreme Court will be issued in Bangla soon.
“We’ve started using software from December. It automatically translates verdicts from English into Bangla. Further steps will be taken once the translations are done,” he said.
The chief justice came up with the remarks while speaking to journalists after paying homage to the 1952 Language Martyrs at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.
“On the instruction of the prime minister, a translation cell has been formed, which has already started work in this regard,” he said.

SC launches software to translate judgment in Bengali

DHAKA, Feb 18, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh Supreme Courte today unveiled ‘Amar Vasha’ software to translate court orders and judgments from English into Bangla language.
The software with artificial intelligence was developed with ‘EkStep’ Foundation of India, on their original ‘Anuvaad’ software used in India similarly to translate from English to Indian languages including Bangla, an Indian High Commission press release said here.
The software was unveiled at a virtual event attended by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq, Law and Justice Division Secretary Md. Golam Sarwar and Indian High Commissioner Vikram K. Doraiswami.
