Eugene R. “Gene” Anderson, 80, formerly of Altoona, passed away April 28, 2021, in Naples, Fla., after a recent illness. Gene was born in Stanton, Iowa, son of Ferne and Elmer Anderson.
He graduated from Stanton High School, Class of ’59 and joined the Navy in 1962, serving four years aboard several ships, including the USS Cole. His Navy friend, Jerry, set him up on a blind date with Paula Dawson, who was in nursing school with Jerry’s girlfriend (Sandy) at the time. Gene and Paula were married Aug. 19, 1967, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona.
Gene earned his associate degree in May 1969 from Penn State Altoona and his bachelor of science in engineering from Widener University, West Chester, Pa.

Charles Henry Minnich III (“Chuck”), of Edgartown and Naples, Fla., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, at the age of 76, after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
After graduating as valedictorian of his high school class, he continued on to Middlebury College, and then Boston University, where he received his MBA. For 20 years Chuck and his family lived in Weston, where he worked in the high tech computer industry. In 1989, Chuck and his family moved to Martha’s Vineyard, where he created and founded Island Lawn & Garden, Inc., a still thriving landscape company.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Wendy Minnich, his daughter Becky Minnich, sons Charles, Lee, and Joel, his sister Greer Underwood, and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
