Just a week in, theyre already dealing with outbreaks among students and staff. That comes as, this morning, we are seeing new data that further dispels the claim that children are immune from this virus. A new report from the American Academy of pediatrics and Childrens Hospital association reveals 97,000 children in the United States have tested positive for coronavirus. Vaccine appointments in Lancaster County remain elusive for some, leading to frustration

WellSpan Health launched an online sign-up portal for COVID-19 vaccines on Jan. 19, the same day Pennsylvania expanded the first phase of its vaccine rollout plan. Within 48 hours the health system had scheduled 45,000 appointments and shut down the portal. Barry Millhouse was able to schedule a February appointment for his 78-year-old mother at WellSpan York Hospital. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in the past year and is considered high-risk. Before reaching out to WellSpan, Millhouse contacted his mother’s doctors at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, where she had been previously hospitalized. Their response left Millhouse frustrated and upset. He said they told him they weren’t going to be administering the vaccine to the public right now and that he should keep watching the news to see when and where to get vaccinated.

Twenty-eight chefs, 24 hours and nearly 2,000 meals: Franciscan Center runs Christmas food marathon

In the kitchen of the nonprofit Franciscan Center, 28 chefs from Baltimore and D.C. labored in staggered shifts overnight, cooking huge amounts of food for the homeless, the hungry and front-line workers. It was all a part of the center's first-ever food marathon to serve more than 3,000 hot meals.
