New principals announced at 3 Alpena schools | News, Sports, Jobs

Courtney Freedlund ALPENA New principals will greet students at Ella White Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, and Thunder Bay Junior High School when school begins in August. Courtney Fredlund, who is currently principal at Ella White, has been named principal at Lincoln Elementary School. Fredlund will replace Principal Hans Stevens who is retiring after 31 years with Alpena Public Schools. Alpena High School Principal Tom Berriman will relocate to Ella White Elementary School and AHS Assistant Principal Katie Lee has been named principal of Thunder Bay Junior High School. Lee will replace Principal Steve Genschaw who is retiring after 30 years with the district.

ALPENA The Alpena Public Schools Board of Education during a special board meeting on Wednesday agreed to pay MacArthur Construction $442,200 to complete site work at Ella White Elementary School this summer. “This would include all the excavation backfill, compaction of all the soils for the building addition for the new parking lots, sidewalks, playground areas, and all of that type of work,” Wolgast Corp. Project Manager Luke Gerhart said. The site work is part of the district’s planned renovations for the elementary school this summer, which include a new roof, a secure entryway and office area, and new boilers and associated plumbing upgrades.

This month I would like to speak to you about making and using a timeline. You can be an excellent student, but still get confused as to exactly when important people lived or important events happened. A timeline will set you straight. I have checked out a few people and events and made a small timeline to get you ready for fun and wisdom. You could be a third-, fourth-, fifth-grader, or younger or older to enjoy a timeline. So check it out and add to it or use it to explore information about the entries

ALPENA Child pornography charges against a Hubbard Lake man should have been dropped because there was no direct link between him and the images on the computer on which the images were found, his attorney said in Alpena’s 26th Circuit Court on Monday. Judge Ed Black gave Alpena County Prosecutor Cynthia Muszynski two weeks to respond to a motion by defense attorney Alan Curtis alleging that Scott Henning, 29, should never have been sent to circuit court on child porn charges.
