ALPENA New principals will greet students at Ella White Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, and Thunder Bay Junior High School when school begins in August.
Courtney Fredlund, who is currently principal at Ella White, has been named principal at Lincoln Elementary School. Fredlund will replace Principal Hans Stevens who is retiring after 31 years with Alpena Public Schools.
Alpena High School Principal Tom Berriman will relocate to Ella White Elementary School and AHS Assistant Principal Katie Lee has been named principal of Thunder Bay Junior High School. Lee will replace Principal Steve Genschaw who is retiring after 30 years with the district.

ALPENA Alpena Public Schools will be saying goodbye to 17 longtime employees who have chosen to retire this year.
Matt Poli, executive director for human resources and labor relations, announced the retirements during the board of education’s March and April regular board meetings. APS employees retiring this year include three principals, 11 teachers, one maintenance employee, one custodian, and one bus driver.
Lincoln Elementary Principal Hans Stevens, and Thunder Bay Junior High School Principal Steve Genschaw will be retiring effective June 30 while Wilson Elementary Principal Lisa Hilberg will retire effective Aug. 31.
