Ranchi: Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha (JJM) the umbrella organisation of several civil society groups and activists – on Friday welcomed the mahagathbandhan government’s announcements made during its first anniversary celebrations on December 29 regarding eradicating hunger and pressing for a separate code for tribals, for example, howevere it also asked chief minister Hemant Soren to fulfill the promises he made when he came to power in December, 2019. “One of the biggest promises made by the CM on December 29, 2019 (when Hemant took oath) was that he would drop the cases against the Pathalgarhi activists. But more than a year has passed by and no action has been taken in this regard,” JJM member Aloka Kujur said.

New Delhi: On December 29, to mark the completion of one year of his government in Jharkhand, chief minister Hemant Soren addressed a rally at the Mohrabadi ground in Ranchi. On this occasion, he made several announcements relating to new schemes. However, many promises made during the election campaign, especially in the manifestos of Sorenâs party Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and its alliance partners, remain unfulfilled.

Over 400 tribal people from villages adjoining the Jharkhand capital took out a protest march in the city on Tuesday seeking scrapping of the Ranchi Master Plan 2037.

The villagers assembled in the city under the banner of organisations such as Adivasi Adhikar Manch, the Ranchi branch of Jharkhand Rajya Kisan Sabha, Ek Soch and Ranchi Master Plan Birodh Sangharsh Samiti.
Ranchi: The first major announcement that chief minister Hemant Soren had made on December 29, 2019 immediately after taking oath of office was to withdraw all cases related to Pathalgadi movement. However, ever after almost a year, the promise is yet to be fulfilled and several villagers and traditional chieftains continue to languish in different jails.
According to information sought through RTI applications, there are 30 FIRs spread across Khunti (23), Seraikela-Kharsawan (5) and West Singhbhum (2) districts, related to Pathalgadi cases. The district committee, comprising the deputy commissioner, superintendent of police and public prosecutor, has recommended withdrawal of only about 60% of the total cases. In addition to this, the Khunti district committee has recommended removal of only Section 124A and 120A/B from seven cases. Regarding action on the recommendations sent by the districts, the home department has simply said that it is under process.
