Since East San Jose was the hardest hit region in the county, Ruiz figured why not offer her space for vaccinations.
“It was really empowering to have the opportunity to partner with the county and Stanford Health and get on the other side of the problem and be part of the solution,” she said.
In the end, workers administered 85,000 doses there.
The public health department said Ruiz s willingness to open her doors was crucial in fighting the pandemic in this key demographic.
“It has been a great partnership and has definitely changed the life of many people here in our county especially in East San Jose,” said county spokesperson Ricardo Romero.

SAN JOSE (CBS SF/BCN) After weeks of waiting, the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine just arrived in Santa Clara County on Monday.
The county received 7,500 doses of the new COVID-19 vaccine, according to public health officials. Additional doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are expected to arrive in Santa Clara County on March 23.
The highly-anticipated Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine only requires one dose, rather than the two doses required by Pfizer’s and Moderna’s vaccines. It has been anxiously awaited by local health officials hoping to boost vaccination rates across the county, especially in hardest hit areas, although it’s not immediately clear where the vaccine doses are headed.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA Santa Clara County opened up a new COVID-19 mass vaccination site at the Aloha Roller Rink in Eastridge Mall in East San Jose on Friday.
In a partnership with Stanford Health Care, the county said it will be able to vaccinate up to 2,000 people a day at the site, which will operate seven days a week. East San Jose has been one of the hardest hit regions in the county by the pandemic, as it is home to many essential workers living in a densely populated area.
