WAUSAU - In a second shot at the polls after a failed attempt in the fall, the Wausau School District narrowly failed to get enough voter support to spend $155 million on facilities, though voters did support another $3 million referendum to hire staff.
According to unofficial results Tuesday night, the facilities question failed by 74 votes, 5,675 to 5,749 or 49.7% to 50.3%. The measure asked for $155 million for building improvements and maintenance, including a new elementary school to serve Grant and Lincoln students
The other referendum seeking $3 million in funding for 36 new service staff for the district’s elementary schools passed with 52% of the vote, leading by a margin of about 600 votes.
