Lima teen charged in armed robberies waives right to jury trial

Juan Freeman II will stand trial beginning Monday in the Allen County courtroom of Judge Terri Kohlrieser. Freeman, 18, on Tuesday waived his constitutional right to a jury trial in favor of a trial to the court in which Kohlrieser will be the sole trier of facts. He is charged with three counts of aggravated robbery with firearm specifications in connection with armed robberies at two Lima businesses in January of 2020.

Jeremiah Alexander, 18, was sentenced to a prison term of five years on Monday on a charge of felonious assault, a second-degree felony that included a three-year firearm specification. The incident took place last summer, four days before Alexander turned 18.

Jeremiah Alexander, 18, who has spent the plast 242 days in the Allen County Juvenile Detention Center, left an Allen County courtroom headed for adult prison on Monday. Alexander was sentenced to a minimum prison term of five years on a charge of felonious assault.

Juan Freeman II, 18, of Lima, appeared in court Friday with a new attorney, Marcus Moll. Freeman is scheduled to stand trial beginning April 26 for armed robberies more than a year ago at Little Caesar’s pizza and Hermie’s Party Shop in Lima.

Juan Freeman II has until the close of business on March 5 to accept a plea deal from prosecutors that would cap his prison time at 14 years. If Freeman rejects that deal he will head to trial beginning April 26 on two counts of aggravated robbery with firearm specifications.
