Allen County spends $392K to replace radios By David Trinko - dtrinko@limanews.com LIMA Allen County will see an upgrade to its communications equipment for law enforcement, and it has COVID-19 to thank. The Allen County commissioners approved spending $392,599 in CARES Act funding to purchase Motorola radio communication equipment from Motorola Solutions. The replacement portable radios will replace those in the Juvenile Detention Center, dog warden’s office, Allen County Emergency Management Agency and the Allen County Sheriff’s Office. “This is much-needed,” said Allen County Commissioner Brian Winegardner, who worked in the sheriff’s office before becoming a commissioner. “The current radios are at end of their life, so the timing couldn’t be better for this.”

Mild earthquake reported northwest of Fort Shawnee By J Swygart - jswygart@limanews.com SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP – Dozens of Shawnee Township residents who reported feeling tremors shortly after midnight Friday were not imagining things. The United States Geological Survey agency reported a 2.4 magnitude earthquake took place at approximately 12:22 a.m., with its epicenter somewhere near the intersection of state Route 117 and Seriff Road, northwest of Fort Shawnee. “I live two blocks away from what they’re calling the epicenter, and it never even woke me up,” Shawnee Township Police Chief Mike Keith said Friday morning. “I didn’t know anything about it until I came into work today.”

Bomb squad dispatched in Allen County domestic dispute Green LIMA A Lima man was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with a domestic incident that ended with the involvement of the Allen County Regional Bomb Squad. At approximately 4:31 a.m. Tuesday, Allen County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 360 St. Clair Ave., Lima, on a domestic violence complaint. Officers spoke to a woman who reported being physically assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, Terry A. Green III. The female said Green purposely damaged property belonging to her and fled the residence prior to deputies’ arrival. At approximately 11:06 a.m. the sheriff’s office received another call stating Green returned to the residence and was in the process of forcing entry into the home. Deputies subsequently found Green inside the residence. While inside the home, they observed what were described as “potentially hazardous items of concern” in plain view.
