Edward Donerson Moten was born in Winchester in December 1876 to Isaac and Carrie Moten. His parents were newly freed from slavery in Bastrop. Moten had eight brothers and sisters.
The small, rural community of Sweet Home is a majority-Black community in Pulaski County. Of more than two dozen communities in Arkansas named Sweet Home to have obtained a post office (on May 29, 1877), this is the only community to have maintained it to the present.
