the hit show, the biggest loser. but he found himself beating the odds when he fell four stories off a balcony in san francisco. he shares his story. reporter: when sam beat the scale on the biggest loser, life was looking like a fairy tail. he was in the best shape of his life. and he found love with a fellow contestant. and then, he fell from a balcony of a san francisco apartment building. and his fiancee got a call she never expected. she said you need to get here as soon as possible. reporter: he was transferred to the hospital with a fractured pelvis, and severed lungs. he suffered a traumatic brain injury that could have taken his life. there are many contributing factors or things that helped save my life that evening. one, i think it was the shape that i was in. reporter: he spent three months in the hospital, undergoing surgery and doing rehab. i ve seen the hardware that i have in my body. it s like home depot in there. reporter: that was the sens
