A CHRISTMAS tree which has stayed in the centre of Bangor since last year is to be removed. The tree was not taken away because of Bangor City Council staff shortages, but the authority plans to remove it shortly. The tree is still on display in Bangor but the tip has gone. Picture: Allan George Iwan Marc Williams, the Bangor’s City Director said: “The Christmas tree should have been removed by now but it hasn’t due to limited staff resources over the past few months. “However we are now in the process of removing the tree.”
TRAINS are scheduled to run again from Caernarfon and Porthmadog on the Welsh Highland and Festiniog heritage railways. Services will start on Saturday May 1. The Welsh Highland Railway will run its Gelert Explorer specials between Caernarfon and Bedgellert and the Festiniog Railway will run its Mountain Prince specials from Porthmadog to Tan-y-Bwlch and beyond to Dduallt. One of the first trains to leave Porthmadog after the lockdown last year was lifted. A FAMILY has paid tribute to a committed coastal newspaper editor who had been in the industry for more than 50 years. Andrew Martin, who was living in Conwy Valley at the time of his death, started his newspaper career in 1968. His first job had been in printing. He did this for six months before securing a job as junior reporter on The Banbury Advertiser. After a couple of years, he got a reporting job on the Banbury Guardian as a sports reporter. He worked for Radio Oxford reporting on the local football team Banbury United. He then moved to Malvern, Worcestershire, where he was made editor of the Malvern Gazette before becoming editor of the Evesham Journal and then, the Worcester Evening News.
