Prayagraj: The death of 94 persons in 196 cases of road accidents in January and February this year has once again brought focus on rash and negligent driving that continues to claim more lives on the highway and streets of Sangam city. The Prayagraj district has topped the chart of road accident deaths in the Prayagraj range which includes Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh and Kaushambi districts.
Statistics revealed by the range police on Thursday showed that as many as 94 people lost their lives and 125 others sustained injuries in 196 cases of road accidents in Prayagraj in January and February this year, while the numbers for road accident deaths in Pratapgarh, Fatehpur and Kaushambi in the same period stood at 47, 60 and 32 respectively.

PRATAPGARH: A case has been registered against 13 people Pratapgarh district in connection with the busting of a unit manufacturing illicit liquor, police said on Monday. SP Akash Tomar said the unit was busted in Babuganj Bazar under Kunda police station limits late Saturday night during a raid jointly conducted by the police and the excise department.
Police had also seized liquor worth Rs 50 lakh from a shop during the raid, Tomar said. He added that 13 people have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Excise Act.
Prayagraj: In a huge respite to students unable to appear in the Class X and XII practical exams of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) due to Covid-19 infection to themselves or in their family, the board has announced that they will get another chance to appear before June 11, 2021.
Easing the worries of students amid the upsurge in Covid-19 cases, CBSE issued a circular, signed by controller of examination Sanyam Bharadwaj, stating students who have either themselves tested positive for the virus, or someone in their family is infected need not worry and their practical exams will be held later.
Prayagraj: The problem of reoccurrence of waterlogging at the civil terminal of Prayagraj at Bamrauli during the rainy season is set to be a thing of the past. To equip the Bamrauli Civil air terminal with a modern drainage system, the state government has sanctioned over Rs 1.48 crore which would be used to get rid of the problem that plagues the area every year during the monsoons.
The drainage system once in place would rid the airport of the annual problem of waterlogging during monsoons that often results in pools of water accumulating even in the apron area where the flights are parked, unloaded and reloaded causing trouble in their smooth operation during the rainy season.
Prayagraj: With two more deaths, the toll in the hooch tragedy at Katariya village in Pratapgarh mounted to six on Thursday.
So far, five persons, including main accused Dabbu Singh, have been apprehended. A joint team of the police and excise department have launched a hunt for three others, including a local liquor mafia and sitting pradhan.
According to the police, Dabbu was planning to contest the gram pradhan election from Katariya and had allegedly distributed spurious liquor to woo villagers on March 30.
IG (Prayagraj range) K P Singh told TOI, “Two more people, identified as Rampal (50) and Rammilan Kori (35), residents of Ratiyapur and Katariya villages, have died during treatment The condition of three others is said to be stable.”
