Allahabad High Court has refused to put a stay on prayers by Hindu devotees inside the mosque cellar, media reports said. After a Varanasi district court permitted Hindu devotees to carry out prayers inside the sealed 'Vyas ji Ka Tehkhana' area in the basement of the disputed Gyanvapi mosque, the Muslim side, taking legal action, had filed a revision petition in the high court.
This comes after a plea by the Muslim side for an urgent hearing was turned down by the Supreme Court, which directed them to approach the Allahabad High Court.
The Gyanvapi management committee has sought to ban media coverage of a survey to determine whether a 17th-century mosque in India was built on the site of a Hindu temple. The matter is expected to be heard in court today. The archaeological survey began on 4 August following court directions in July.
Media coverage of the ongoing Archaeological Survey of India s (ASI) survey of the Gyanvapi complex has been barred by a Varanasi Court. The order comes after members of the Gyanvapi management committee sought a ban on media coverage and any comments from the survey team. The survey is being conducted to determine whether the 17th-century mosque was constructed over a temple. The court s order comes amid baseless and misleading news being reported online and in the media that could lead to a breach of peace.
Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee joint secretary Syed Mohammad Yasin said the archaeological survey work is being done on the Gyanvapi mosque's premises on orders of the court
The court of District Judge A K Vishvesh passed the order on a plea by the Gyanvapi management committee seeking a ban on the media coverage of the survey which is being conducted to determine whether the 17th-century mosque was constructed over a temple
