Following the Marathas call for reservation, the Jats are gearing up to launch a protest campaign to secure Other Backward Class (OBC) status at the national level, particularly in Haryana. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faces a challenging scenario, given its ongoing predicament in Maharashtra over Maratha reservation. If the influential Jat community pursues their demand for inclusion in the central OBC list, the BJP may encounter difficulties in northern India in the run-up to the 2024 elections.
On September 24, the Akhil Bhartiya Jat Mahasabha organised a gathering in the district which was also attended by Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Naresh Tikait, with former governor Satya Pal Malik addressing the crowd virtually. Rashtriya Lok Dal leaders also participated in the gathering. It was announced then that a large-scale session will be held on November 20 in Talkatora stadium in Delhi, where Jats will urge the Centre to include the community in the central OBC list.
