NFL players have long been assigned jerseys within a range of numbers by position. Offensive linemen wore something in the 50s, 60s or 70s. Quarterbacks, kickers and punters had their choice of jersey Nos. 1-19. Wide receivers wore a number in the 80s or low double-digits, 10-19.
In April, NFL owners approved a proposal by the Kansas City Chiefs to modify jersey restrictions, giving players at most positions a larger pool of numbers to pick from.
Running backs, receivers and tight ends can now wear numbers 1-49 and 80-89. Defensive backs can wear single digits former Lions cornerback Darius Slay, now with the Philadelphia Eagles, has changed to No. 2. And linebackers like Barnes can wears Nos. 1-59 and 90-99.
With only nine days before the opening of free agency, it seemed like the right time to write a primer on what’s ahead for George Paton. With an injury-marred, 5-11 season in the rearview and Patrick Mahomes between them and the playoffs, the Broncos have their work cut out for them this off-season.

NFL Cap Situation
As I write this, we still don’t know the official cap ceiling, though I suspect that changes this week. We do know that the cap ceiling can not be lower than $180 million and that it’d be a significant decline from 2020’s $198.2 million.
Broncos waive five players
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. The Broncos have waived five players from their roster, the team announced Tuesday.
Wide receiver Fred Brown, defensive end Joel Heath, safety Alijah Holder, tight end Jordan Leggett and tackle Darrin Paulo were waived from the team.
Brown, Leggett and Paulo spent the season on the team s practice squad, while Holder was on the practice squad for much of the year before being promoted to the active roster late in the year. Holder appeared in eight games for the Broncos in 2020 and played a career-high 37 snaps in the team s Week 17 game against the Raiders.
