Antoine Fuqua is to direct and produce an all-Black film adaptation of Tennessee Williams play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
The project is based on the hugely successful 2008 Broadway revival, which made history as the first all African-American presentation of the play.
The Training Day director has joined forces with producers Stephen C. Byrd and Alia Jones-Harvey, who backed the history-making production on Broadway, and they said in a statement that the new movie will combine elements of the play with new storylines and weave them together to bring the production to the big screen.
Fuqua will also serve as producer on the project, alongside Byrd and Jones-Harvey, according to Variety.

Something very different for Antoine Fuqua coming down the pipeline.
The action-thriller vet, whose long line of work includes such [Denzel Washington starring] films as “The Magnificent Seven”, “Training Day” and “The Equalizer”, will direct a new feature based on Tennessee William’s “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”.
Variety says Fuqua will produce alongside Stephen C. Byrd and Alia Jones-Harvey, who backed a 2008 revival of the show that made history with a sold-out 19-week run as the first all-African American production on Broadway. It was also the highest-grossing play during that season.
No word if the film plans to utlize any of the cast from the Debbie Allen-directed play, which included Anika Noni Rose, Terrence Howard, Phylicia Rashad and James Earl Jones. Maybe Denzel will get a call?
