Smith received an additional sentence of 60 days in the county jail for possession of alcohol by a person under 21.
The charges arose from a two-vehicle crash that happened on Jan. 17, 2019, at the intersection of Mary Esther Boulevard and Hollywood Boulevard. According to the release, Smith ran a flashing red light and T-boned a vehicle occupied by two women.
The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries. Alexis Michaela Marshall, a 26-year-old mother of three, was a passenger in the vehicle and was pronounced dead on scene.
While investigating the incident, the Florida Highway Patrol located numerous alcoholic beverages in Smith’s vehicle and reportedly observed indications that Smith was impaired at the time of the crash.
