You probably noticed a massive Rogers and Fido outage impacting customers across the country on Monday. As per this recording, it’s not clear what caused the interruption or how many were impacted. The outage affected wireless voice and data however, residential and business wireline internet services were not impacted. The website Downdetector showed Rogers outages beginning overnight and spiking to almost 13,000 reports during the day. The service disruptions also impacted Canadians trying to make COVID-19 vaccination appointments with calls dropping and verification codes not delivering. [Twitter]

A recent document reported on by the Wall Street Journal suggests Apple Music pays artists double what its streaming competitor Spotify pays in royalties to rights holders. The news drops a couple weeks after Shopify outlined how it pays royalties in response to calls for more transparency and fairness when it comes to compensating artists. Spotify pays an average of about one-third to one-half penny per stream, though its larger user base generates many more streams. Apple’s payments come out of monthly subscription revenue from users.

Everything is fine. That’s the message Shopify delivered this week after announcing that three of its top executives were leaving the e-commerce giant. On Shopify’s website, CEO Tobi Lutke announce that Shopify’s chief talent officer, chief legal officer and chief technology officer will “transition out of their current roles” in the coming months for “individual reasons.” The three are the latest in the string of top-level departures, which come during changing times for the company as it plans expanding fulfillment across North America.

DuckDuckGo can now block Google’s popular FloC tracking method, also known as Federated Learning of Cohorts. Google created the method to track users and predict their search results. It was also a solution to offer users ads based on their demographic and search trends without third-party cookies. But DuckDuckGo has now created an extension for Chrome that will block Floc tracking. Now users even have the option of using either the DDG application or extension or entirely opt-out of FLoC monitoring.
